As in most other addition and alteration works to an existing shophouse, perhaps the main challenge lies in the moulding of the spaces inside to fit intended brief and inject a new lease of life while still respecting the shell. Here, 2 units of shophouses are merged as one with a common courtyard, rooftop garden and pool.
The previously enclosed airwell was restored and transformed into a full courtyard and this opens up to bring in light, air and greenery to the spaces within. Heroic solid timber fins are introduced not only to provide privacy screening but also to enhance the verticality of the airwell and the green wall.
To add flavour to the units, the interior design of the spaces within is conceived from 3 different palettes of hues and materials, resulting in a congenial variety of moods and colours to the interior.
